Hey hey StoryGnatter,
It’s that time of the week again! Storytime.
And like last week, I’m writing this in the heatwave sauna that is apparently my home. So, without further ado, let’s get on with it.
Are you sitting comfortably?
Excellent. I’ll begin.
This week, we’re talking about a much-loved TV face here in the UK, known for Gardeners World among other things. Guess it yet?
Yep, it’s Monty Don. But not as you know him.
I don’t have a garden and I can’t claim to be particularly knowledgeable about gardens… but I do find a Monty Don programme strangely comforting and calming, and it’s often my go-to search on iPlayer when I have a migraine. Weird, I know.
Anyway, there’s a whole other side to the man that seems to have passed a lot of people by:
Monty Don Jewellery
Yes, you read that right.
For nine(ish) years from 1981, Monty Don meant costume jewellery, not gardens. He ran the business with his jeweller wife, Sarah, who was the driving force behind the designs. Monty took care of sales (and lent his catchy, memorable name to the brand).
But this wasn’t just any old jewellery - in fact their clients included some very, VERY famous faces.
Rather than tell you the whole story here, I think it’s better if we let Monty tell it his way. It’s a short article, promise - but worth the read.
As always, I love to hear your reactions, feedback, jokes and thoughts, so keep them coming.
I’ll be back next week,
Meg
