What is StoryGnat?

Ah stories. We (humans) love them, and I’d love to introduce you to some that have caught my eye. It’s that simple.

Each week, I’m going to tell you about a story I find interesting. It might be a true story (fair warning, I did history at uni). It might be a fictional story. It might be a mix of the two or a muddle of things.

Instead of telling you the story, I’ll tell you about it - why you might like it, why it grabbed my interest - and I’ll point you in the direction of where you can explore it for yourselves.

That’s the idea, anyway.

Because I think when we consume more stories, our lives become richer, our perspectives on our world become broader and our empathy for those we share the world with becomes deeper.

(Or to put it another way, stories are fab.)

Why StoryGnat?

Hey, I’m Meg, the StoryGnat in question. Why StoryGnat? Well, I love stories and I have the attention span of a gnat, so it kinda fits. These stories will jump around from topic to topic each week, so my gnatty brain will be out in full force.

A bit about me(g)

  • I’m a copywriter by day, which is a great fit for someone who loves putting themselves in other peoples’ shoes and imagining what their lives are like (it’s a big part of the job).

  • I did a history degree, which is a great choice for anyone who basically wants to spend their days pondering the stories of people in the past and wondering how they came together to get us where we are today.

  • I taught myself to read (I know, gold star to me) but I’ve always been a slow reader. Although I’ll definitely cover books in this series, you’ll probably notice there’s a high proportion of books that are either very easy reading, or aimed at kids/teens. Don’t expect anything too high-brow.
